WebMiliuseum is a virtual art museum that presents art collected by estonian artcollector Matti Milius (1945-2015).
The idea of his own gallery arose in the 1990’s after Estonia became independent and free economy took place in Estonia. Matti was actively looking for a sponsorship.
In the beginning of the 2000’s he travelled around our country looking for a building to renovate for his gallery. There were discussions about buildings in Narva-Jõesuu, Pärnu, Massiaru, Valga/Valka, Tartu and Tallinn.
The concept developed through discussions with several creative people and since 1997 gallery had already a name -MILIUSEUM. The meeting where the concept developed to multicultural art center took place in Tallinn in 2008. Poet Doris Kareva, pastor Heino Nurk and Matti Milius were participating. Miliuseum was planned to connect Baltic sea countries.
Matti Milius passed away in summer 2015 after a tragical fire-accident, but his collection is still on our planet waiting for the roof of MILIUSEUM.
The virtual life to Miliuseum was given by his fiancé Renna Ali and her daughter Rika Rebeka Mändmets with some of their close friends. Non-profit organization MILIUSEUM was active during the period 09.07.2015 - 22.1.2021. Miliuseum organized some exhibitions and made this website. After 2021 website is under Renna Ali´s personal and voluntary maintenance
You are welcome to enjoy a virtual tour in the world of art, that was collected and loved and carried to one hill by Matti Milius in Tartu Estonia, a world that smells like sweat and tobacco and was heard as his homeric laugh, a laugh that even KGB couldn't hush.
